Song of Solomon 2:4:

4He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.

The reason for His redemptive work was the fact that we were lost, that we had been swallowed by death and depravity. We had been created as children, but had grown into wickedness and iniquity, thus we had lost our inheritance, and what a great inheritance it had been – God saying – rule over the earth, subdue it and reign it!

Christ’s banner over us is love – it is who He is and what He has done for us.

Paul states in Romans 8:15:

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

It is by Christ’s spirit that we are once again called children of God, it is through Him that we can once again be a part of His house, not as servants or slaves, but as sons.

He invites us to His table saying – do this in remembrance of me until I return.

He leads us to the banqueting room, and His banner over us is love.
